i concur with these problems; pine also has the unfortunate habit of
running away with all the CPU it can grab if someone ungracefully
disconnects from the system, i suspect this is due to poor signal
handling (have a look at process groups and controlling terminals).

also have a look at the source code for pine, you'll probably be
amazed like myself that it works at all, it a bloody mess, probably
one of the worst bits of code i've ever seen...
