Buy TFM. It tells all. (Volume I, Chapter 5) - 21 pages of helpful guff.

Seriously, you should save *as you edit*; not just when you finish.
Computers crash a lot. Try ZZ or :wq in command mode (not edit mode - use
ESC to switch).B
