Subject: Sydney : details of Linus visit

In conjunction with AUUG, the Sydney Linux User's Group presents
a talk by Linus Torvalds, the creator of the Linux operating system.

The talk will be held on Friday evening, September the 16th, at the
University of Technology in Sydney, in room 413 in building
2 at 6.30 pm. The is the same building where SLUG meetings are held, and is
next to the tower building.

As the room must be paid for, there is a charge of $5. There is a limit
of 200 for the venue.

The following day, Saturday 17th September, SLUG has arranged a harbour trip
with Linus. This trip leaves Circular Quay, picks up from Rose Bay, and
leaves us on Shark Island, where we will have a BBQ, games etc.

This is meant to be a social occasion, so spouses, SO's, children etc.
are encouraged. (Can you imagine anything more boring than a boatload
of computer nerds?)

The boat takes 80 people comfortably, but if more are interested, a second
pickup can be arranged for Rose Bay (only).

The cost is $25 for adults, $15 for children under 15, with children
under 5 free. This includes the boat ride, park fees, food and drink. Bring
your own beer or wine etc.

In order to keep costs down, the BBQ will be somewhat 'self-service'.

The times are as follows:
Pickup : Circular Quay 10.30 am
Rose Bay 11.00
Arrive Shark Island 11.15
Depart 3.00 pm
Rose Bay 3.15
Circular Quay 3.45

Tickets for both events may be purchased in advance at the SLUG
meeting held on August 26th at 6.30 pm, being held in room 639.

Tickets may also be purchased by mail, but cost 50c extra per mail.
Unfortunately, there are no credit card facilities, so payment through
the mail must be by cheque (made out to Sydney Linux Users Group).

I don't envisage any problem in the talk being 'booked out' : although
you can't be sure :). However, it will help enormously if you could
pay for the boat outing well in advance.

Please send mail orders to

For further details, please email me (jhonan@nospam.jolt.mpx.com.au) or ring

Linus' visit has been made possible because he has been
brought out by AUUG, for the annual conference in Melbourne.
The NSW branch of AUUG has paid for Linus' airfare to Sydney.

Please bring this to the attention of friends.

NOTE: the easiest way to pay for your tickets is at the SLUG meeting
this Friday night.
