Vice-President's Report

By Dinesh Birlasekaran.

Hia Members!

I do hope you are making the best of the last days of your holidays. Some people have been skiing and others well, just chilling at their own pace. Don't forget there are only a few more days of holiday and you will be back in no time. So play hard and work smart.

There are a couple of issues which need to be resolved. As some of you may have noticed Bharat's mailing list is on the net, this allows users to get E-Samachar (the newsletter in electronic form) in their e-mail box. If you would like to be on the list, then please e-mail me at dinesh@progsoc.uts.edu.au Once on the list, you will be informed of events planned for this semester. If you have access to the web, be sure to visit our web page at http://www.progsoc.uts.edu.au/clubs/bharat/ .

We are in the process of updating our database, so that we can cater for all newsletter hungry people. Please note those who do not register with us for "free" will have their name removed from the database. This is to ensure that we are up-to-date with the current member list. So don't be lazy, fill out the form enclosed and send it to the society. Membership cards will be issued when I get an updated list of members.

Cultural Night and the Antakshiri competition are just around the corner and we are doing our best for both to be successful. More details later in this newsletter.

Other events include the UNSW, Macquarie and UWS dance parties. The end of year Harbour Cruise is tentatively planned for the 8th of December. Bharat will be kicking off its movie nights starting from the middle of August.

Members have expressed the need for the following events. A UTS Indian Fashion Show, a Dinner & Karaoke Nite, an Indian Food Day at UTS Cafeteria, and a picnic at the Blue Mountains, Wollongong or some other destination.

Bharat is also planning to have a Logo designing competition. The logo should be simple yet, have an element of both Indian and Australian culture. The winner receives a Sony Discman courtesy of Bharat. Watch out for competition details towards the middle of the semester.

People are scared to come up to committee members and express their views. There is no need for this. We are after all students like you people and we promise we won't bite your head off. We are here to make sure we provide some sort of bridge to the Indian community.
